The Hayes/Dabernig team will be looking to repeat the performance of another of their mares Sheidel who was successful in 2017. Fuhryk comes into this in a similar path that Sheidel followed. Just like her stable-mate, Fuhryk finished 2nd in the G1 Winterbottom and attacks the Oakleigh Plate first-up. Both also had two Caulfield wins prior to the Oakleigh with each win at 1100m and 1200m. Fuhryk won the Listed Alinghi Stakes in the Spring when carrying 58kg over the 1100m trip and sprinted clear to post a 2.25 length victory. Taken to the West for the Winterbottom the daughter of Star Witness was attacking the line strongly down the Ascot straight to get within 1.5 lengths of the winner Viddora. A winner and runner-up from four attempts when fresh, she is 1 from 1 at the Caulfield 1100m and gets in with the light-weight as a dual Group 3 winner.
The Snowden trained entire resumes following a two-start Spring returning contrasting results. First-up in the G2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley he was a stylish winner when settling on the speed and packing too many guns in the run to the line. Second-up in the Moir again at the 1000m at The Valley, he started favourite and again settled just behind the speed but he was gone a long way from home and faded off to finish just on eight lengths from the winner. Sent straight for a spell the Snitzel entire has trialled twice to prepare for his return, the first of those an outstanding hit-out while in the second of those he sweated up quite noticeably. Never asked for an effort, McEvoy allowed Dixie Blossoms to stride get a neck victory. The 4YO is 3 from 3 first up, 3 from 3 at 1100m and 1 from at 1100m at Caulfield.
The Golden Slipper winner will be second-up this campaign following an effortless win when taking out the Inglis Sptint at Warwick Farm. That was an encouraging return for the filly following the end of her Spring campaign in the Everest where she was just a little too much out of depth at that stage of her career. Her only other run for the Spring was in the G1 Moir Stakes at 1000m where her sectionals were electric when charging home late from back in the pack on the tight track at Moonee Valley to arrive for victory. The Moir form has stacked up well with Viddora landing wins in the G1 Winterbottom and Magic Millions Sprint, Faatinah placing 3rd in the G2 Caulfield Sprint and then winning in Dubai, Jungle Edge winning the G3 Heffernan Stakes. The speedy filly is 2 from 2 at 1100m and should have little trouble in handling the track at her first look.
The 4YO mare has been well managed by trainer Henry Dwyer and well-placed through her career. Given her chance in the early Winter features in 2017, the then 3YO finished 2nd in the Listed Denise’s Joy at Scone and followed that with a Doomben victory in the Listed Lightning. Resuming at 1100m in a BM90 restricted to mares, she was sent straight to the front and despite lumping 60kg was too strong recording a 1.75length victory. Second-up in the G2 Caulfield Sprint she again dominated in scoring by over two lengths. Sent for a break after that victory, the mare returned over 1000m with 56.5kg in the Listed WJ Adams at Caulfield, starting an odds-on favourite and beaten a half-length. From 3 starts at the Caulfield 1100m she reads 3: 2-1-0 and has the same figures when two runs into a prep, while overall at Caulfield she is yet to miss a cheque with her record at 6: 3-2-1.
Held each year on Blue Diamond Stakes Day is the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, one of the best handicap races of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
