Strong race to kick off the card with in-form runners both drawing the second-line in a sprint scamper which is always difficult but I think Major Cam (11) is good enough to overcome it. Led throughout in the Gr.3 4yo Championship defeating Spare Me Days two starts ago before having little luck from a bad draw at his most recent start. Victorian pacer Roy George (8) has looked great in both Albion Park starts to date, dominated in the Rising Stars last week but require luck from this draw.
Open race! A safe option is Bring On Lefty (7) despite a wide draw, continues to race in excellent form and scored a deserving victory in the heat on Tuesday after being given a sweet trip. Fit, strong and can be used in his races so expect another forward showing. Aldo Rossi (8) won the other heat on Tuesday and looked impressive, the booking of Mat Neilson was significant and he delivered with a polished display, needs luck from the draw but can repeat.
Quality line-up! Feel The Courage (1) draws the coveted inside gate again, looks the leader and although a slight distance risk at this level, he should prove very hard to run down. Brave effort last week behind Stunning Grin. Tullow (3) has exploded in two victories at Albion Park over the past fortnight, rising in grade but racing in great form so can’t be ignored. Alleluia (5) will be a sharp improver after an unlucky first-up run last week.
This race could present a leader/behind leader scenario with Swarovski drawn to lead from his good draw, that enables Smokin Bird (9) to gain a perfect two-hole trip, recent form is sound and maps well for this type of race. Heza Swinger (10) finished strongly last week in his local debut and will take beating again this week despite a second-line draw.
Great line-up with a myriad of different scenarios! Victorian pacer Iceenothink (2) draws perfectly and looks the safest option. No trainer has produced back to back Qld Derby winners but Larry Eastman has a golden opportunity to change that, recent form is sensational and has the services of the best driver in the country right now in Chris Alford. Kimani (5) was very good last week when third in the Gold Coast Derby, keeps improving and should be prominent here. So much depth here! Nek Time is chasing a UBET Picket Fence Bonus in this race.
Thinking January (1) lands a perfect trail from her inside draw, has speedy beginner Slippery Jade drawn on her immediate outside. January is yet to win at this track but should’ve won the Breeders Classic Final two starts ago with normal luck, represents great value here. Eleniark (10) is a talented type but faces a challenge from a difficult draw, has trialed in good style in lead-up to this race and should race well. Slippery Jade is chasing a UBET Picket Fence Bonus in this race.
Maestro Bellini (9) has proven himself as the best rookie in the sunshine state this season, aiming for the UBET Picket Fence Bonus in this race and clearly looks the testing material following his recent domination. Sat parked to win the Breeders Classic Final two starts ago before leading throughout last week in Breeders Crown heat. Bet Im Special (10) is racing in good form and may end up stalking Maestro Bellini from his draw, can certainly place again here.
Like many, I saw it last week but I still don’t believe it – Hectorjayjay (5) was simply sublime last week unleashing an incredible sprint to beat his rivals in the Sunshine Sprint, his turn of foot can easily torch his rivals. Aiming for five straight victories but goes from sprint features at his past two starts to the staying distance this week, lands a front-line draw and gives Gavin Lang ample opportunities. Must be with him again, your eyes weren’t playing tricks last week. Ohoka Punter (6) is low-flying and was very good again last week running home hard for third behind Hectorjayjay and Christen Me, extra distance will suit him this week. Mad roughie could be Glenferrie Hood?
Really keen on the chances of Newport Dreamz (11) in this race, in fact, he wouldn’t have been out of place in the main event. Excellent victory at this track last start and will keep improving, this is a horse with a bright future. Maretti (2) broke through for a deserving victory last start and draws well here, has early speed and should race well again.
Difficult race to assess! Thinking Dalacos Empress (8) might represent value in this line-up, still a maiden from six starts to date but seems to be improving. Has the services of leading reinsman Robbie Morris. Comefeelthemagic (2) has a good draw and also seems to be improving; Dixon may have given a good lead opting for this filly.
