A heat/final series conducted at Wentworth Park in Sydney, the race is a Group 1 event run over 520m. It was first held in 1964 when taken out by Cultured Girl. The race is restricted to females and is held on the same card as the Derby to make it dual Group 1s for the dogs and bitches.

The Robert Britton trained chaser has burst onto the racing scene and looks to have a prosperous career ahead of her. From 9 career starts, the fawn bitch is yet to miss a cheque, recording 5 wins and 4 minor placings. Britton gave her a trial at Wentworth Park prior to the Futurity heats to familiarise her with the track and the move paid dividends, with the classy chaser crossing easily from box 5 in her heat to take up the running. Once in front she chased strongly and was able to defeat the race favourite Blue Sky Riot who tried valiantly to run down the daughter of Fernando Bale but was unable to. The fastest of the 3 heat winners, she stopped the clock in 30.19 and opened at a $3 quote for the final after drawing box 8.
Starting favourite in the heat taken out by Slingshot Gypsy, Blue Sky Riot was beaten for early speed from box 4 and copped a slight squeeze as the speed came across. Chasing hard, the daughter of Barcia Bale loomed up like she was going to go past the leader but changed course twice as the swung for home which was enough to cost her the race. The Anthony Azzopardi trained bitch is a four-time winner that has met Slingshot Gypsy twice and been beaten home both times, the other being the G2 Laurels Final at Sandown. In that Final, Blue Sky Riot could only manage 5th from box 6 while Slingshot Gypsy was 3rd to Dr Mino wearing the red vest. Her chances rest with how she can get out from box 4 and if able to avoid trouble will be ready to power home.
Slowest of the three heat winners, Dyna Yami recorded 30.39 in winning her heat from this same box. Unlike the other heat winners, Dyna Yami had not seen the Wentworth Park track prior to her run last Saturday and you would expect the daughter of Dyna Double One to take good benefit from that outing now that she has coursed the trip. Trained by Samantha Ferguson her heat win took her career to 10: 3-3-2 and added to her two previous wins at The Meadows. In the heat she began quickly to cross the red vest and then when the speed came across stuck to the inside and railing hard around the home bend was able to reel in the leader. Wearing the checked vest again for the final, a repeat of the run last week will hold her in good stead.
