The Light Fingers Stakes is a race for 3YO fillies run at set weights over 1200m. Held at Group 2 level, the race was 1st run in 1981 with the 2002 and 2012 editions held at Warwick Farm and in 2013 was held at Rosehill. All other years it has been held at Randwick. It was raised to Group 3 status in 1986 and then to Group 2 in 1994.
The race is named in honour of Bart Cummings first Melbourne Cup winner and in 2018 will carry $200,000 in stakes. It offers a good start point for the Autumn for fillies and in the past has been a lead in race for the Hobartville Stakes or Millie Fox Stakes and then onto the Surround Stakes and beyond.
The race has been won by some quality fillies over the years, including Sea Siren, More Joyous, Forensics, Gold Edition, Skating and Emancipation.
